Formal Research Programs
Formal research programs (FRP) give structure to the networks of issues that the university researches by grouping interests that are shared by a certain sector of researchers.
Research at ITESO is organized around Formal Research Programs, which include:
• Energy, food and environment
This FRP is aimed at producing relevant technological development in the region in the fields of electronics and information technologies. This program forms part of the Department of Technological and Industrial Processes (DPTI).

• Sociocultural Studies
This FRP looks at the sociocultural production of meaning. Asking about the production of meaning opens up a whole network of issues that lend themselves to interdisciplinary inquiry with a sociocultural perspective. This program belongs to the Department of Sociocultural Studies (DESO).

•Socio-political and Legal Studies
This FRP is aimed at generating new knowledge on five issues-objects of study that relate to the quality of democracy. This program belongs to the Department of Socio-political and Legal Studies (DSOJ).

• Habitat and Human Development
This FRP is aimed at producing new, useful and pertinent knowledge about the production of human habitation. This program is run by the Department of Habitat and Urban Development (DHDU).

• Technological development aimed at achieving sustainable development
The overall purpose of this FRP is to develop theoretical and practical knowledge for understanding and solving problems related to the use of natural resources and the impact of their use on the environment and the communities involved, particularly in western Mexico. This program forms part of the Department of Electronics, Systems and Informatics (DESI).

This FRP focuses on producing knowledge about the articulation of psychological, social and cultural factors that generate wellness and illness in the development of individuals, groups and institutions, in order to promote projects that address such issues.
